1932年出生的德国工业设计师 Dieter Rams，与德国家电制造商百灵和机能主义设计学派有着密切的关系。Dieter Rams 的设计观点对于当代设计师如 Apple 的 Jonathan Ive 或是深泽直人都有着深远的影响。1943-1957年在 Werkkunstschule Wiesbaden（威斯巴登工艺学校）专研建筑和木工的学问。1995年加入德国电子仪器制造商 Braun（百灵）工作，1961年成为百灵的首席设计师，在这边服务了超过30个年头。
Dieter Rams 用一句话说明了自己的设计取向 “Weniger, aber besser"（少，却更好）。Dieter Rams 和设计团队设计了许多让人印象深刻的电器用品，电唱机、咖啡机、电子计算机、收音机、视听产品…等等。许多作品都永久收藏在世界各地知名的博物馆中。
早在1980年代 Dieter Rams 便开始思索周遭设计世界，令人困惑的形式、眼花撩乱的色彩和声音。身为设计师的他，不经要问自己：我的设计到底是不是好设计？好的设计既然不能用有限的方式去丈量，Dieter Rams 便展开一段寻找好设计的探索，应运而生的是设计十诫。
