Alexander Girard 出生于美国，成长于意大利，深受地方文化吸引的他，私人收藏超过 100,000 件小物品。他有过人的品味，并对于颜色、图案、空间拥有极高敏锐度。Alexander Girard 所设计的图腾与花色，总是充满原创性、线条活泼、色彩鲜艳。看着他的作品，能让当时世界大战后生活苦闷的人们，有如接触到活泉一样美妙甘甜。
1952 年 Alexander Girard 受雇成为 Herman Miller 布织品部门总经理，与 George Nelson 及 Charles and Ray Eames 共同合作，此设计团队的作品对于美国及世界其他国家的设计发展，有非常大的影响。
除了为家具设计布料外， Alexander Girard 的知名作品还包括 Georg Jensen 的桌面摆设、高级餐厅 The La Fonda del Sol 的包装主题等。 他退休之后，投身在地方特色文化 (Folk Art) 研究上，并将他庞大的收藏品捐赠给全球藏量最丰的民间艺术博物馆展出 (Museum of International Folk Art)。
