1949年出生的 Nigel Coates，於 University of Nottingham and the Architectural Association 學習建築學。顛覆性的原創精神首見於1984年出版的 NATO 雜誌。透過建築所具備的溝通能力和實驗性質，重新認識周遭所處的有機體，而設計的語彙應當建築在人們的日常生活經驗之上。建築要能反映當代的生活模式，也要擁有詩意的藝術性在其中。
